Gasperini Eyes Scamacca Reunion at Roma as Price Tag Revealed

Football News

Recent reports from Italy indicate that Gian Piero Gasperini, if appointed as the new Roma coach, is considering bringing striker Gianluca Scamacca with him from Atalanta. This move would see Scamacca return to his boyhood club, where he spent time in the youth academy.

Both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport suggest Gasperini is particularly interested in signing Scamacca for the Giallorossi.

The relationship between the striker and the coach is strong, highlighted by Scamacca achieving his most prolific season under Gasperini`s guidance, scoring 19 goals across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.

Gasperini was reportedly a guest at Scamacca`s wedding last week, and La Gazzetta dello Sport speculates that a potential move to Roma may have been among the topics discussed during the celebrations.

Scamacca was born in the capital city and was part of Roma`s youth setup for three years as a teenager before transferring to PSV in the Netherlands.

Expected Transfer Fee for Scamacca at Roma

According to the latest information, Atalanta are willing to listen to offers for Scamacca in the region of €25 million or higher.

Scamacca originally joined Atalanta from West Ham United in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €30 million and went on to have his most successful season to date under Gasperini.

However, Scamacca faced injury concerns during the 2023-24 season. After an ACL concern in pre-season, a subsequent thigh injury required surgery that ultimately ended his campaign prematurely.

Fortunately for Atalanta, they had already secured the services of Italy international Mateo Retegui before the start of the season, adding another option in attack.

Retegui finished the 2023-24 Serie A season as the league`s top scorer (Capocannoniere) with 25 goals. This means that even when fit, Scamacca faces significant competition for a starting spot in the Atalanta line-up.

This strong competition is a major factor contributing to Atalanta`s willingness to potentially sell Scamacca should a suitable offer be made.
