Furuhashi Completes Switch to Birmingham City

Football News

Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi, aged 30, has finalized a permanent transfer to Birmingham City, leaving French club Stade Rennais after spending just six months there.

Furuhashi was initially brought to Rennes under the guidance of then-head coach Jorge Sampaoli. However, Sampaoli was dismissed only days after the striker`s arrival on a two-and-a-half-year contract. His successor in charge at Roazhon Park, Habib Beye, subsequently made minimal use of Furuhashi. The Japanese international did not manage to score for Les Rouge et Noir and, just half a year into his time with the Breton side, he became one of several players the club sought to offload during the current transfer window.

While the precise transfer fee has not been officially disclosed, reports suggest that Rennes is set to receive slightly over €9 million for Furuhashi. The deal reportedly also includes performance-related bonuses that could total just under €1 million. The Japanese forward has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Birmingham City, who are scheduled to compete in the EFL Championship during the upcoming season.
