Fiorentina request Conference League play-off home leg moved to new venue in August 2025

Football News

Fiorentina has submitted a request to play their home leg of the Conference League play-off round at Sassuolo`s Mapei Stadium. This request is due to the ongoing renovation work at Fiorentina`s usual home ground, the Stadio Franchi.

The Viola have successfully qualified for this UEFA tournament for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrating consistency by reaching the Final twice and the semi-finals once during this period.

They are scheduled to compete in a play-off round on August 21 and 28, with one of these matches being their designated home fixture.

Playing at the Stadio Franchi has not provided much of a home advantage lately, primarily because the stadium`s capacity is severely restricted as a result of the reconstruction efforts.

Considering the limited capacity at the Franchi, the club has formally requested permission from both UEFA and Sassuolo to relocate their home tie to the Mapei Stadium, situated in Reggio Emilia.

Fiorentina has already been granted permission to play their initial two Serie A matches of the upcoming season away from home. These fixtures are scheduled for August 24 against Cagliari and August 31 against Torino.

The renovation work is expected to continue for a significant duration, with the specific aim of completing the new Curva Fiesole stand in time for the stadium`s centenary celebration in June 2026.

Allowing the construction process to proceed without interruption for four consecutive months by not hosting games could provide a valuable head start and help the club meet the planned deadline for the stadium`s completion.
