Edin Dzeko is set for a return to Italy`s Serie A. While Bologna initially seemed likely, Fiorentina have now emerged as the frontrunners to sign the veteran forward from Fenerbahce.
The 39-year-old player is keen to continue his career. His contract with Fenerbahce expired, making him a free agent.
He demonstrated his continued effectiveness last season, scoring 21 goals and contributing eight assists in 53 appearances for Fenerbahce.
Dzeko ready for Serie A return

Bologna were the first club to make an offer for the experienced striker. However, Fiorentina have accelerated their efforts and are now leading the pursuit.
Although the competition remains, the veteran striker appears to prefer a move to Fiorentina, where he would likely serve as a backup to Moise Kean.
The potential contract is expected to be for one year, with an option for a second, though a direct two-year agreement is also being considered.

Another significant factor making Fiorentina appealing to Dzeko is the anticipated appointment of Stefano Pioli as the new head coach.
Dzeko is one of European football`s most experienced and widely-travelled players, having previously played for clubs including Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Roma, Inter, and Fenerbahce.
