French club FC Nantes has reportedly submitted a bid for South Korean international player Hyun-seok Hong, who is 26 years old.
The attacking midfielder is currently under contract with Bundesliga side Mainz 05. He joined Mainz in August 2023 for a reported €4 million fee and his contract runs until 2028. He has featured in 24 matches for them since arriving. Details regarding the financial terms of Nantes` initial offer were not provided in the report.
Hong began his European career in Germany with Unterhaching before transferring to Austria to play for LASK. After two years at Belgian club Gent, he moved to the German Bundesliga. However, he has reportedly found playing time limited at Mainz, which has attracted interest from clubs like Nantes.
The South Korean international has earned 14 caps for his national team. He was also part of the South Korea U23 squad that secured a gold medal at the Asian Games, a triumph that resulted in his exemption from compulsory military service.
