David: ‘Very excited by Juventus move, I love to score goals’

Football News

Jonathan David, the newest addition to the Juventus squad, stated that he always considered the club among the `top 10 biggest in the world` and expressed his significant excitement about beginning his journey in Serie A.

Although the striker joined as a free agent after his contract with Lille expired, his arrival wasn`t without financial implications for the Turin club.

Beyond the reported five-year deal valued at €6 million annually plus up to €2 million in performance incentives, the club`s official announcement disclosed an additional €12.5 million in commission and signing fees.

Speaking to Juventus` official website, David remarked, “Growing up as a kid, I always looked up to a club like Juventus and thought, this is probably one of the top 10 biggest clubs in the world. So for me to be sitting here today is an honour.”

Signed primarily for his goalscoring prowess – he netted 25 goals and provided 12 assists in 49 appearances for LOSC last season – David emphasized that his game offers more than just scoring.

“As a player I love to score, I love to be in the game and find ways to combine, to get my teammates involved. My biggest strength is just finding space and being in the right place at the right time.”

David, born in the United States and a Canada international with previous spells in Belgium and France, shared his thoughts on moving to Italy.

“I’m very excited. Every step of the way is always a challenge, so coming to Serie A is also a challenge to adapt to the league, adapt to my teammates, and to be as successful as possible.”

Notably, David becomes the first Canadian player ever to join Juventus, though not the first Canadian to feature in Serie A.

“It feels good. I am trying to pave the way for other Canadians who have the talent to one day do the same things I am doing now.”

Finally, he delivered a message directly to the Juventus supporters.

“I hope we have a great season and to do everything to win titles here.”
