Cristiano Ronaldo expressed gratitude towards his former coach, Stefano Pioli, through a message posted in Italian on social media. This comes as the former AC Milan boss formally departs from Al-Nassr and is set to join Fiorentina.

Al-Nassr officially confirmed the termination of Pioli’s contract on Wednesday morning.

Pioli, known for leading Milan to the Serie A title in the 2021-22 season, is expected to be appointed as the new head coach for Fiorentina.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the club announced, “Al Nassr Club Company informs that Mr Pioli and his Staff are no more the acting coaching staff of the first team. We would like to thank Mr Pioli and his staff for their dedicated work during the past season.”

Ronaldo shared his appreciation for his former coach with an Italian phrase on X (formerly Twitter): ‘Grazie per tutto’, meaning ‘thanks for everything.’

Reports indicated that an agreement between Fiorentina and Pioli was reached on June 10, during the period when the former Rossoneri manager was also being considered as a potential candidate to replace Luciano Spalletti as the Italy national team coach.

Under Pioli`s management at Al-Nassr, Ronaldo registered an impressive record, scoring 31 goals in 36 matches.

The Saudi club appointed the Italian tactician, and during his tenure, the 59-year-old secured 28 wins from a total of 44 games.

Fiorentina had confirmed the departure of Raffaele Palladino at the end of May, after he spent just one season with the club.

Palladino`s contract with the Viola was terminated by mutual agreement.

Fiorentina concluded the recent 2023-24 campaign in 8th position with 60 points, which was sufficient for qualification for the Conference League next season due to other results.

Fiorentina is expected to formally confirm Pioli’s appointment in the coming hours.
