Cremonese Extend Sporting Director Giacchetta’s Contract

Football News

Cremonese announced today that they have extended the contract of their sporting director, Simone Giacchetta. His new deal will keep him at the recently promoted club until June 30, 2027.

Giacchetta joined the “Tigri” (the club`s nickname) in 2021 and has been highly successful during his four years there. He has been instrumental in two promotions to Serie A: first in the 2021-22 season and again in the 2024-25 campaign.

In the just-concluded Serie B season, the club from Lombardy finished 4th. They then successfully navigated the play-offs, beating Juve Stabia and Spezia to secure their return to Italy`s top division.

Over recent years, Giacchetta has been behind several key player acquisitions. Dennis Johnsen, brought in from Venezia for the 2023-24 season, and Tommaso Barbieri, signed from Juventus’ Next Gen team last summer, were crucial to the club`s promotion this season. Johnsen contributed eight goals and seven assists in Serie B, while Barbieri ended up as the team`s joint top scorer with ten goals.

Loan player Jari Vandepuette was also a significant contributor, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists. Additionally, Franco Vázquez, a former midfielder for Palermo and Parma who joined Cremonese on a free transfer in July 2023 thanks to Giacchetta, also finished as joint top scorer alongside Barbieri.

On their official website, Cremonese issued a statement commending Giacchetta for his “professionalism and dedication.” They highlighted his role in securing two Serie A promotions and reaching the Coppa Italia semi-finals during the 2022-23 campaign.
