Club World Cup Player Ratings: Inter 0-2 Fluminense – Disappointing Exit

Inter`s campaign in the Club World Cup concluded with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Fluminense. In this match, only a handful of Inter players seemed to be performing at their best.

Inter

Sommer 5 – Hesitated crucially on Fluminense`s opening goal, initially moving for the ball before stopping. Despite making one excellent save later on, his error proved costly.

Darmian 4.5 – Also shared blame for the first goal, finding himself in a poor defensive position. Appeared physically exhausted, similar to many teammates.

De Vrij 4.5 – His attempted long pass was blocked early in the build-up to the Brazilian side`s first goal. Frequently caught out of position throughout the match.

Bastoni 5 – Seemed visibly frustrated and received an unnecessary yellow card in the first half. Understandably, he wasn`t at his peak after appearing in 58 matches this season (71′ Carlos Augusto 5.5 – offered a slight improvement).

Dumfries 4.5 – The Dutch wing-back posed no real threat offensively and looked defensively uncertain (53′ Luis Henrique 6 – brought some energy).

Barella 6.5 – One of the few indispensable players for Inter, he fought tirelessly until the final whistle, achieving a 90% pass accuracy (according to Sofascore).

Asllani 4.5 – While the playing surface didn`t help, his distribution lacked pace and incision (53′ Sucic 5 – couldn`t significantly impact the midfield).

Mkhitaryan 4.5 – Had minimal influence on the game, registering only 33 touches (53′ Carboni 5 – struggled to make an impact).

Dimarco 6 – Defensively not his strongest performance, but he created Inter`s first opportunity and struck the crossbar late in the match.

Thuram 4.5 – Clearly lacked match fitness. Having only recently rejoined group training, he was unable to trouble the opposition defense (66′ S. Esposito 6 – showed more willingness).

Lautaro Martinez 6 – Created Inter`s best scoring chances in the second half. Was unfortunate to hit the post after a brilliant piece of skill in the penalty area.

Coach: Chivu 5 – Inter suffered their third defeat in four Club World Cup matches. This time, they were unable to mount a comeback. The coach now needs his players to recover and prepare for a fresh start in just a couple of weeks.
