Chelsea Football Club has officially confirmed the list of players selected to participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the United States between June 15th and July 13th this summer.
Following earlier reports, including one from the Daily Telegraph, the club has now verified that goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who is reportedly a target for AS Monaco, has not been included in the squad. This decision comes even though a potential transfer for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan appears not to have materialized.
French defenders Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana, who has previously been linked with Olympique de Marseille, have also been left out of the traveling squad.
Fofana is understood to be continuing his recovery from injury at the club`s Cobham training ground. However, Foot Mercato reported towards the end of April that the young Frenchman might be permitted to leave the West London club this summer, with Marseille reportedly retaining a long-term interest in securing his services.
Nineteen-year-old Mamadou Sarr, who only formally joined Chelsea two days ago from fellow BlueCo club Strasbourg, *is* part of the confirmed squad. It is anticipated that manager Enzo Maresca will use the tournament in the United States as an opportunity to evaluate the young defender`s capabilities.
