Bungie has announced a significant adjustment to Marathon’s endgame content schedule, aimed at resolving player frustration over the overlapping availability of the Cryo Archive map and ranked queue. This change means players will no longer be forced to choose between these two core activities.
The updated schedule introduces a staggered availability for the timed modes. Instead of running concurrently, Cryo Archive and Ranked will now follow each other. Cryo Archive will commence on Thursday at 10 AM PT and conclude on Sunday at 10 AM PT. Immediately following this, Ranked play will open on Sunday at 10 AM PT and run until Thursday at 10 AM PT.
This decision stems directly from player feedback, as confirmed by the Marathon development team. The developers acknowledged that the previous overlap made it challenging for players to decide where to invest their time and hard-earned gear. The new schedule aims to provide a clear, focused window for each mode, enhancing the player experience.
This initiative further demonstrates Bungie’s commitment to listening to its community. The studio has recently implemented other player-requested improvements, including adjustments to special subroutine drops in Cryo Archive loot vaults and enhanced matchmaking for players in geographically isolated regions. While a solo Cryo Archive option remains a frequently requested, yet potentially complex, feature, these recent changes highlight a proactive approach to community concerns.
Ultimately, this shift in timing is a positive development. Although players with limited weekday availability might find it harder to dedicate extensive time to the ranked grind, the continuous availability of one of these “loot sink” game modes (where powerful gear can be lost) prevents highly geared weekend players from dominating more beginner-friendly maps. Instead, they can now channel their spoils into ranked progression.
The longevity of this new schedule remains to be seen, but it’s a promising step towards achieving a balance that caters to both dedicated grinders and casual players within the Marathon community.
