Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck has unequivocally denied recent speculation that he is set to extend his contract with the club. Speaking in the mixed zone after Germany’s 2-1 triumph over Ghana on Monday, the central defender offered clarity on his contractual situation.
When questioned about reports regarding a potential new deal, Schlotterbeck stated, “I must categorically deny that; unfortunately, we’re not there yet.” He elaborated on the reasons for the current standstill, explaining that initial negotiations were conducted with Sebastian Kehl, who is no longer with the club. “What has been reported is unfortunately not true. I would probably have made a decision in the coming weeks. The situation has changed a bit. I’ll be holding talks with Ole [Nils-Ole Book], and we’re not at the stage where we’re on the verge of a deal.” Schlotterbeck also acknowledged the difficult nature of the situation for both himself and the BVB faithful, remarking, “It’s a shame for BVB fans right now, but it’s not an easy situation for me either.”
Just last week, prominent German media outlets such as Bild and Sky Germany had indicated that Schlotterbeck was close to signing an extension. However, the subsequent departure of Sebastian Kehl and the arrival of Nils-Ole Book in a key management role appear to have significantly impacted the progression of these contract discussions.

Bild now suggests that the contract saga between Dortmund and the player is likely to be protracted. This extended period of uncertainty could potentially create an opening for other clubs to pursue the 26-year-old defender, initiating negotiations for a possible summer transfer.
