Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha Sidelined with Injury

Bundesliga News

Borussia Dortmund has announced that midfielder Felix Nmecha faces a multi-week layoff. He sustained a lateral collateral ligament injury in his knee during the team’s recent 3-2 comeback victory over Hamburg.

This injury rules the 25-year-old Nmecha out of Germany’s forthcoming international matches against Switzerland (March 27) and Ghana (March 30). National team coach Julian Nagelsmann is yet to name a replacement for the midfielder.

Felix Nmecha’s Performance This Season

The Dortmund midfielder has been a constant presence in every Bundesliga match this season, cementing his role as a vital member of the squad for Niko Kovač. This strong form was recently recognized with a new long-term contract extending until June 2030.

Julian Brandt, whose departure from BVB is anticipated at the end of the season upon his contract expiry, came on for Nmecha in stoppage time during the Hamburg match.

Impact on the German National Squad

Nmecha’s absence creates a midfield challenge for Nagelsmann. Adding to the concern, Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlovic has reportedly also withdrawn from the upcoming international window, joining Leon Goretzka on the sidelines. While not yet officially confirmed, VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller is rumored to step in for Pavlovic.
