Bologna Pursue Bernardeschi for Serie A Comeback After Toronto FC Exit

Football News

Reports suggest that Bologna have contacted former Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschi regarding a potential return to Serie A following the termination of his contract with MLS side Toronto FC.

Toronto officially confirmed Bernardeschi`s departure six months before his contract was due to end this winter.

A statement on the club`s official channels read: “Toronto FC today announced that the Club and Federico Bernardeschi have agreed to terminate the winger’s contract. Toronto FC have utilized one of the Club’s two buyouts of a guaranteed contract on Bernardeschi.”

Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez commented, “After internal discussions with Federico, we were aligned that this was the correct moment to part ways. We would like to thank Fede for his contributions to Toronto FC over the past three years and wish him the best in the next chapter of his career.”

Bernardeschi`s exit from Toronto occurred on the same day as his compatriot and former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne, who was also released and is now available as a free agent.

Both players are anticipated to return to Italy, and it is understood they are considering potential returns to Serie A for the 2025-26 season.

Regarding Bernardeschi, reports from various sources indicate that Vincenzo Italiano`s Bologna has initiated contact.

These reports claim that a `formal` approach has been made for the 31-year-old winger, who scored 22 Serie A goals during his previous spells with Juventus and Fiorentina.

Sources suggest Bernardeschi is willing to reduce his salary demands from the significant wages he earned in Canada in order to facilitate a move back to the Italian top flight.

There were also reports of interest from both Lazio and Roma in recent transfer windows.
