Arsenal Submit Bid for Brentford’s Christian Norgaard

Football News

Arsenal have reportedly submitted a bid of up to $12.8 million for Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard, aiming to move ahead of rivals Tottenham in securing his transfer.

The 31-year-old Norgaard is seen as a strong possibility for Arsenal, particularly as discussions regarding the future of Thomas Partey are stalled. Partey`s contract is set to expire soon, and he hasn`t agreed on a new deal, with reports suggesting Arsenal wants him to take a pay cut.

Arsenal are close to signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad as their primary defensive midfielder for next season, with only final details pending. However, if Partey leaves along with Jorginho, who has already departed, another midfielder would be needed. Arsenal had previously scouted Norgaard extensively last season when it seemed Brentford might need to extend his contract option.

Despite signing a two-year extension with Brentford, Norgaard is reportedly interested in the opportunity to play Champions League and Premier League football with Arsenal. For Arsenal, signing Norgaard would provide an experienced and dependable backup option for Zubimendi (whose transfer fee is spread out over time, exceeding his $61.4 million release clause). Acquiring Norgaard would be financially sensible while the club also focuses on signing a new striker and winger.

Rival north London club Tottenham also reportedly holds an interest in the Brentford midfielder. Spurs, who recently hired Norgaard`s former coach Thomas Frank, are looking to reinforce their midfield. With Yves Bissouma potentially leaving, Norgaard could offer valuable experience, complementing younger players like Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray as they adapt to top-level competition.
