Aleksandar Kolarov Appointed Inter Assistant Manager

Football News

Former defender Aleksandar Kolarov has been officially confirmed as an assistant coach for Inter Milan, joining the staff under manager Cristian Chivu, a former teammate. This move comes after Kolarov resigned from his position as head coach of the Serbia Under-21 national team.

Reports had surfaced earlier suggesting Kolarov was being considered for a potential coaching role at the San Siro, and the Serbian Federation`s announcement effectively confirmed this speculation tonight. Their statement on Kolarov`s departure from the U21 team noted he had “accepted the offer to join the coaching staff of the Champions League finalists Inter as assistant manager.”

The Serbia U21 role, which the 39-year-old took up in November 2024, was Kolarov`s initial foray into head coaching, overseeing just five matches. Before this, following his playing retirement in 2022, he had a brief stint as sporting director at Pisa.

As a player, Kolarov spent two years at Inter (2020-2022) and also had notable spells at Roma, Manchester City, and Lazio, among others. It was previously reported that Inter had considered another former player, Walter Samuel, but he remains committed to his assistant role with the Argentina national team under Lionel Scaloni.

The Inter squad traveled to Los Angeles today to begin their preparations for the upcoming Club World Cup, and Kolarov is set to link up with them there.
