Al-Arabi Unwilling to Pay Fee for Lyon Midfielder Jordan Veretout

Football News

Qatari club Al-Arabi SC is reportedly pursuing Lyon midfielder Jordan Veretout, who is 32 years old.

Although Veretout himself has reportedly reached a personal agreement regarding terms with the Qatari side, Al-Arabi is said to be unwilling to pay a transfer fee for his services.

Veretout joined Lyon from rival club Olympique de Marseille last September in a €4 million deal. He was a regular fixture for Lyon throughout the season, featuring in 38 matches across all competitions, during which he scored two goals and provided one assist.

Despite playing an important role in Lyon`s previous campaign, helping them achieve a sixth-place finish in Ligue 1 and participate in the Europa League, Veretout is among several players who could potentially leave the club due to its significant financial crisis. Lyon is currently awaiting the result of an appeal against a potential administrative relegation to Ligue 2.

Reports suggest that Al-Arabi is attempting to take advantage of Lyon`s precarious financial situation to acquire Veretout on a free transfer. However, Lyon is open to selling the midfielder but insists on receiving a transfer fee for any potential move.
