Adrien Rabiot on Mason Greenwood: ‘Without his problems, he would have Jude Bellingham’s image’

Football News

Adrien Rabiot, a pivotal player for Olympique de Marseille and set to participate in the Champions League during the 2025-2026 season, recently engaged in an extensive interview with The Athletic. During the discussion, he specifically addressed Mason Greenwood`s initial season in France.

Rabiot described the former Manchester United attacker as “an incredible player.” He elaborated on his view, stating, “If he hadn’t had all of his problems, I think he’d have an image like [Jude] Bellingham. Mason would be the star.”

The midfielder, formerly with Juventus, further commended Greenwood`s skillset: “Because he’s an exceptional player. He can score with his right foot and his left foot, he has an exceptional shot, he can dribble. We’re very lucky to have him. When he’s really focused, he does really great things.”

Greenwood joined Marseille from Manchester United in the summer of 2023 in a transfer deal reportedly valued up to €31.6 million. He had faced serious charges, including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault, in 2022. However, these charges were withdrawn in 2023 due to the withdrawal of key witness evidence before his move to the Provence region.

The English forward concluded the season having scored 21 goals, thereby establishing a new record for the most goals scored by a Marseille player in their debut season in the 21st century. This achievement surpassed the previous records held by Bafetimbi Gomis (20 goals) and Didier Drogba (19 goals). According to statistics from Opta, his goals directly contributed 16 additional points to the club`s total this season, marking the highest impact of any player in Ligue 1.
